The Hidden Problem with “AI Code Generators” for Computer Vision

So, yesterday, we spoke about the limitations of courses for learning computer vision for the purposes of developing computer vision projects. But what about the new wave of AI code generators? Tools like ChatGPT, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, DeepSeek R1 etc… are they the answer?

On the surface, they are truly amazing. I’ve coded my own AI Parenting App called ARIA and an AI video generation tool all without knowing how to code in Dart (Flutter). Ask an LLM a to write some Python code for object detection, and it’ll happily oblige.

But here’s the catch, and it’s a big one for computer vision:

ChatGPT and other top tier LLMs are often shockingly outdated when it comes to specialized fields like computer vision. Last I checked ChatGPT was dated to July 2024!

An Experiment

I want you to try this experiment yourself: Ask ChatGPT or your favorite Coder LLM: “Write Python code using YOLOv12 for real-time object detection.”

Go ahead, I’ll wait.

Did it work? Probably not. Because YOLOv12 doesn’t exist. It’s a made-up version to illustrate the point. ChatGPT is trained on vast datasets, but its knowledge of rapidly evolving fields like computer vision is often stuck in the past. It might give you code based on older versions of YOLO, TensorFlow, or PyTorch — code that’s inefficient, outdated, or simply won’t work with the latest advancements.

If you are lucky, it will search the internet for the answer, but it may not index the right stuff that you’ll need for your project.

Trust me, I’ve tried it over and over again. It’s very frustrating.

This is a critical problem when you’re trying to build cutting-edge computer vision applications. You need code that’s not just generated, but code that’s:

  • Up-to-date: Leveraging the latest models and techniques.
  • Optimized: Efficient and performant for real-world use.
  • Reliable: Based on current best practices and documentation.

That’s where VisionCraft AI is fundamentally different. We don’t rely on general LLM knowledge. We’ve built something specifically for computer vision.

But we need your help to back us so we can bring VisionCraft AI to life. We need to raise approximately $1500 to do the finishing touches.

The fundamental backend functionality should be completed.

We only have 73 spots left for early testers to get the founders edition of VisionCraft AI, so pre-order now before spots are gone.
